WOMEN AND GIRLS DESERVE BETTER...ABORTION AND BIRTH CONTROL!

This video is about what Melinda Gates and her husband are doing to help reach the estimated 215 million women worldwide who would love to have access to family planning services, but currently do not, and you can read more about it below:

I read this great article from a doctor who performs abortion and what his experience has taught him:

"Abortion should be considered a part of reproductive health care and a basic human right, but it’s not. It’s hard to access. About 85 percent of women live in a county where there’s no abortion provider. The distribution is even more dire in rural areas, where 90 percent of women have no provider. Many women have to travel long distances just to get to a provider.

It forces women to take into account the sensibility of people who don’t have firsthand information about what the circumstances are in that woman’s life. It creates a duty and obligation for a woman to make her decision in a time frame acceptable to people other than herself. That time frame may or may not be realistic, and it fails to take into account the complexity of decision-making when it comes to abortion. As people sit around, and theorize and debate about what should be a reasonable or common ground, the voices of the people who are most affected by this decision are lost. They aren’t represented in these dialogues. Their specific realities don’t count."

It is important to note that it isn't people sitting around and debating and making decisions regarding abortions its MEN. MEN. MEN. Men who will never get pregnant, men who even if they are victims of rape, will never be pregnant as a result of it. MEN who could NEVER understand what it's like for us as women, and have no right to speak on our behalf. PERIOD!

One such MAN, who is talked about in the article below, is a recent GOP senate candidate who stated that women of what he calls "legitimate rape" could never get pregnant as a result, because their body shuts down and doesn't let them. While as stated in this article: "Indeed, a study in the American Journal of Obstetricians and Gynecologists found that rapes result in more than 32,000 pregnancies each year."

This is a great article about all the women who are publicly sharing their abortion stories. I'm glad that more and more women feel comfortable talking about this, because we shouldn't feel stigmatized for making a responsible and in some cases necessary decision. Being in that situation is already hard enough, women shouldn't have to feel ashamed on top of it. There is also a great link to another site set-up to let women tell their stories too.

This last article is about a woman who had a late term abortion, after having complications in a much wanted pregnancy. It's just heartbreaking to not only hear all the stories, but also how much lack of compassion there is towards us. It's so easy for the male population to force things upon us, because it will NEVER affect them and they will NEVER be in that situation. Instead of being supportive of women and girls and our bodies, and that we deserve to have complete ownership and control over them. Even if it's hard for women to talk about something like abortion, I know that all these women sharing their stories will help lots of women everywhere.
