AKA Don't Let Your Daughter Dress Like A Tramp
In the past month or so there have been two articles, one featured in the Wall Street Journal, as well as one on CNN's blog, about how girls are being allowed to dress quite frankly like skanks. Now, I'm not sure why anyone is bothering assesing what little girls are or aren't wearing for that matter, when there are actual women's/girl's rights issues all over the place. Things that have, I don't, say a life or death affect on the female population in both this country and around the world. But I guess we can't control the way men treat us, nor men in general, so we might as well focus on all these "slutty" girls, who are getting crazy ideas about fashion from grown "sluts" like the Kardashians.
The first article was offensive but somewhat funny/ridiculous probably because it was written by a woman whom seemed like she had just wandered onto their website and had decided that she was in fact a journalist, I guess the Wall Street Times agreed with her, and thought that her progressive thought-provoking article would in fact enlighten a lot of people. I can see how they felt that way given that she made excellent points about how moms are letting their children dress like "sluts" because they miss their own youth, and also regret how many guys they slept with in college. The second and most latest one is disturbing and to be quite honest completely repulsive, probably because it was written by a man, who made it a point to completely sexualize a little 8-year old girl in his first few lines. Saying how she was "the sexiest thing at the airport" and talking about how her midriff shirt showed tan lines, obviously she was returning from vacation, was his conclusion. He also talked about her wearing lip gloss, and dangly earrings, even typing this I'm coming close to vomiting. Its revolting to think that a man could even think of seeing a child like that in the first place. He than concluded that it was the parent's fault for letting their child dress that way, as opposed to say, the creepy disgusting men who see a child (once again an 8 year old child) as a sex object. I'm pretty sure we can figure out very quickly who the pervert is in this case, and who needs to be taken out to a field and shot, before he actually hurts, once again, a child.
My response to the entire article goes something like this: well its not like they're going to close the wage gap anytime soon (or ever) and all of us women are watching as all of our reproductive rights are being taken away, and than they'll probably just bar us ladies from higher education. So I would say that regardless of if we're 8 or 98 we're all going to be competing for the same group of douchebags soon, since our survival will depend one hundred percent on men. Therefore an 8 year old girl apparently dressing "sexy" if thats even possible (which it isn't), sounds not only reasonable but actually necessary to attract a nice man to take care of her b/c she won't have any rights, nor anyway to obtain money so that she can have luxury items like food, and housing. So it sounds like we might as well prepare these young girls for the realistic way that their lives might be. Given that this girl has already garnered the attention (do I need to add sexual attention) of a man (and a gay man) at that, I guess we can say that she is on the right track. I am now officially vomiting.
